National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA)
The National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) was created in 1993 as a private organization to recognize accrediting agencies for American private schools on a national level.
The U.S. Department of Education was created in 1985 but it did not have the authority to recognize any elementary and secondary accrediting agency. NCPSA was therefore formed at large to standardize the private school accreditation process. It was also granted tax-exempt status due to its nonprofit nature in 1996.
NCPSA: Current Status
As per the last report, 21 associations hold full membership in the Council. To ensure the credibility of the NCPSA recognition, highly respected educators are onboarded by the NCPSA to serve on the Council as “public” representatives.
